In 2001, Rob Friedman and Stacey Mattraw purchased and restored this beautiful 4 bedroom home located in the Tuscan hill town of Cortona. Casa San Marco occupies the top two floors of a former 16th century palazzo and overlooks the stunning Church of San Francesco, along with the beautiful valley below.
Stacey’s passion is interior design and flea market shopping. She has married these two in designing and furnishing Casa San Marco since 2001. The result is an eclectic, artful and aesthetically beautiful 500 year old Cortona village home.
From the street entrance, one enters a small foyer and climbs a set of century old stone stairs to the first floor of Casa San Marco. This floor consists of a living room, two master bedrooms, and a library/den. Both the library/den and one of the bedrooms have access to the terrace with magnificent valley views. Past the living room is a spacious kitchen the has been completely remodeled, including a custom marble sink/countertop, and a large dining area. Off the kitchen is the newly remodeled bathroom, designed by Stacey, which incorporates antique Tuscan architectural elements and century old frescoed walls. Another set of stairs leads to the second and last floor of Casa San Marco, under the terra cotta tiles and beams. There are two full master bedrooms and a full bathroom on this floor.
We hope you will enjoy our home as much as we do, we love having our guests share in our little piece of Italian heaven!
